Website maintenance costs between $79 and $600 per month for most businesses, and more for applications under active development. Across the 30 sites Wasevo maintains, the median plan is $180 per month. The cheapest is $79 for a single WordPress brochure site. The most expensive covers a SaaS marketing site plus a web application with ongoing development each month. Hourly maintenance without a plan runs $25 to $90 per hour depending on the country and the skill involved.

The spread comes from four things: the platform, the number of sites, how fast you need a response, and how many hours of changes you want each month. This guide explains each, shows what every price level should include, and gives you five questions that make quotes comparable.

Typical website maintenance prices in 2026

  • Basic care for one WordPress or Shopify site: $79-150 per month. Updates, daily backups, security scanning, uptime monitoring and about one hour of small changes.
  • Business care: $150-250 per month. Everything in basic care plus staging tests before updates, Core Web Vitals checks, two to three hours of changes and a 48-hour response window.
  • Essentials retainer: about $249 per month. One active workstream, three improvement hours, a monthly report and 48-hour response.
  • Growth retainer: about $599 per month. Two workstreams, 10 improvement hours, a weekly call and 24-hour response.
  • Agency white-label maintenance: from about $299 per month for a portfolio of client sites under the agency's brand.
  • Hourly or ad hoc: $25-90 per hour with no monitoring and no routine.

What drives the cost up

  • Platform: custom React or Node applications need more care per update than WordPress, while Shopify needs the least server work but the most app and theme testing
  • Ecommerce: checkout, payment and shipping tests after every change
  • Number of plugins, integrations and third-party scripts
  • Response window: same-day response costs more than 48 hours because someone has to be available
  • Improvement hours, the biggest variable. Count how many changes you request in a typical month

What a maintenance plan must include

A quote that leaves out any of these five is for hosting or hourly support:

  • Core, theme, plugin and dependency updates tested on a staging copy before production
  • Daily off-site backups with a tested restore
  • Security hardening, login protection and malware scanning
  • Uptime, SSL and form or checkout monitoring with alerts
  • A written monthly report of what was updated, fixed and recommended

Hourly versus monthly

Hourly support looks cheaper until an update takes the checkout down on a Friday evening or a plugin is exploited and nobody notices for a week. A monthly plan pays for monitoring and routine work aimed at preventing those incidents. Think of the monitoring as insurance and the improvement hours as a change budget.

WordPress website maintenance cost

Most of the sites we maintain run WordPress, and they are the easiest to price. A brochure site with a handful of plugins fits the $79-150 basic tier. A WooCommerce store with payment gateways, shipping rules and a page builder needs the business tier or above because we test every update against a real order. Sites with many plugins from different vendors cost more because updates conflict more often.

How to compare quotes

Ask every provider the same five questions. Which sites and systems are covered? What counts as routine and what is billed extra? How fast do you respond, and is that written down? How are backups tested? What happens if the site is hacked? If a quote cannot answer those clearly, its price is not comparable with one that can.

Our pricing

Wasevo publishes its website maintenance plans: a care plan from $79 per month, Essentials at $249 and Growth at $599, plus white-label plans for agencies. Every plan lists the sites covered, the response window and the improvement hours, and all of them run month to month with 30 days' notice.

Frequently asked questions

For one small business website, $79-150 per month buys updates, backups, security and monitoring. Budget $150-250 if you run a store or need regular changes, and $249-599 if you want a developer working on improvements every month.
